Visitor Center Docents
Trail Crew (Stewardship)
The Visitor Center at Armstrong Redwoods SNR and Austin Creek SRA was started by volunteers John and Pauline Gilbert and funded by Stewards in 1986. In the beginning, this center was housed in a small room at the Ranger's station. In 1990, volunteers saw their dream of a separate visitor center become a reality. State Parks Volunteer Docents staff the center year-round, seven days a week from 11am-3pm. They provide visitors with park information and sell interpretive merchandise. The proceeds from the merchandise benefit the work that Stewards does to support the park.
This is a wonderful opportunity to share information with people from all over the world, share your love of the redwoods and meet new people. New docents need not have had prior sales experience and will train side-by-side with experienced docents until they feel comfortable staffing the visitor center on their own. Potential docents are required to attend one of the three General Orientation Sessions and seminars that pertain to the natural and cultural history of Armstrong Redwoods SNR and Austin Creek SRA.
