Calypso Orchid

Armstrong Redwoods SNR is a very popular spot for walking through the magnificent old-growth redwoods. The trails in the grove are accessible for wheelchairs.Docents can be scheduled for adult group walks through the grove year-round. They share interesting facts about the cultural history of the park and how it was saved by Col. James B. Armstrong and his family. They also share their knowledge about the coast redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens, and the flora and fauna found in the  redwood ecosystem. If you visit the park in early spring you may be able to spot fetid adders tongue or the small, lovely calypso orchid.

Austin Creek SRA offers wonderful back-country hiking in a remote wilderness area with expansive views of the coastal hills and the Russian River valley. Especially popular are annual wildflower and plant identification hikes. Docents are available to lead groups on these hike with advanced notice.

Groups can book private naturalist or docent-led hikes (reservations at least 2 weeks in advance are recommended).  To do so, simply  register online by filling out our Online Reservation Form for Groups. Fees vary and  help us continue to provide free docent-led environmental education programs for school groups through our School Group Education Programs. Eco Adventures are also offered: kayaking, birding, tidepooling - special packages for Corporate groups are available.
